Khairy hangs on to Rembau after court rejects PKR election petition
SEREMBAN, Wed:
MP for Rembau Khairy Jamaludin hung on to his parliamentary seat after his challenger on the March 8 polls, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, failed to win a High Court petition here to challenge the results.
The Parti Keadilan Rakyat supreme council member had his petition rejected due to a defect in the filing.Judge Datuk Mohtarudin Baki said Badrul Hisham did not fulfill a requirement under Section 32B of the Election Offences Act, 1954 after failing to prove that the second defendant, the Election Commission, had erred in its task that compelled balloting to change and gave Khairy the victory.Badrul Hisham also failed to enclose two copies to the court by providing only the original copy when he submitted the petition on April 25 to seek a declaration that the Rembau parliamentary seat won by Khairy, as candidate for the Barisan Nasional with a majority of 5,726 votes, was invalid.
Khairy was named as the first respondent in the petition.
